Mission
New Asia Middle School has inherited the educational ideals of New Asia College and adhered to the goal of our founder Dr. Ch'ien Mu of promoting Chinese culture and revitalizing Chinese ethics and morals. We affirm that Chinese teaching should shoulder the responsibility for nurturing students to be "upright Chinese".
Since the school was established, we have been committed to promoting mother-tongue teaching, enabling students to realize their potential to the full, focusing on moral education, cultivating positive values and attitudes in students, and nurturing students' balanced development in the five key domains of education. From developing students’ good personal moral character, we gradually enhance their understanding of interpersonal relationships and social responsibilities in order to improve their civic awareness, foster a national and ethnic consciousness and a sense of duty to fulfill the obligations as members of community. We aim at nurturing real talents who are forward-thinking and are concerned about society and the country.
Qualities of New Asians
The New Asia Spirit is to enable students to become "the Chinese who are appreciative of Chinese culture, full of vigor and vitality, aspiring, broadminded and sane". Today, the school still insists on inheriting and passing down the essence of Chinese culture. Students must establish goals for self-cultivation and pursue improvement in their moral character and studies to attain the following qualities:
1. Judiciousness
2. Diligence
3. Benevolence
4. Self-discipline
5. Commitment
6. Self-compassion
Motto
「誠明」二字見於《中庸》。《中庸》說:「誠者,天之道也。誠之者,人之道也。」
又說:「自誠明,謂之性。自明誠,謂之教。誠則明矣,明則誠矣。」
The Chinese characters cheng (“Sincerity”) and ming (“Intelligence”) come from Zhongyong (“The Doctrine of the Mean”), which says, “Sincerity is the way of Heaven; behaving with sincerity is the way of men”, and “Intelligence derived from sincerity is nature. Sincerity derived from intelligence is instruction. Given sincerity, there shall be intelligence; given intelligence, there shall be sincerity.” “Sincerity” is concerned with ethics and behaviour, and “Intelligence” is in the realm of knowledge and awareness. “Sincerity” is tantamount to reality and truth, and “Intelligence”, learning and understanding. The two words form the motto of our school, reminding us of the equal significance of pursuing knowledge and cultivating one’s moral character.
School Emblem
Our school emblem is an image of Confucius asking Laozi about manners, taken from a painting found in an excavated Han Dynasty tomb, which was recorded in Jinshilu, a book on ancient Chinese epigraphic studies, written by Zhao Mingcheng of Song Dynasty. The school motto “Sincerity and Intelligence” is placed in the center of the image.
